Where should a beginner feeding station go?
Set the pole where you can see it from a regularly used window, at least 10 feet from the nearest tree trunk, fence line or roofline a squirrel could launch from. Squirrels can jump roughly 8 to 10 feet horizontally and 4 to 5 feet straight up, so the baffle only works if the launch points are actually out of that range. Mount the baffle's bottom edge 4 to 5 feet off the ground on the pole itself.
Glass is the other placement rule. Bird feeders within about 3 feet of a window cause fewer fatal strikes than ones set 4 to 30 feet away, because birds leaving a close feeder never build up enough speed. If the closest window is in that middle zone, either move the station closer or add the UV-reflective decals to the glass.
What order should I set this up in?
Sink the pole and mount the dome baffle first, before anything is hanging from it. Add the Squirrel Buster Mini and load it with the cardinal blend seed, then hang the nyjer finch feeder on the same pole a foot or two away so squirrels can not use one feeder as a stepping stone to the other. Will a squirrel still get into a Squirrel Buster Mini?
The perch ring closes under a squirrel weight the same way the larger Squirrel Buster models do, so a squirrel can not reach the seed ports. What it can not stop is a squirrel climbing the pole itself, which is the baffle job. Skip the baffle and even the best spring-perch feeder gets raided from above or from a jump onto the feeder roof.
Do I need both a cardinal blend and plain nyjer seed?
Yes, because they serve different feeders and different birds. Cardinals, chickadees and titmice work a mixed seed hopper or tube well, while goldfinches and house finches largely ignore anything but small-port nyjer feeders. Buying one small bag of each here is cheaper overall than one large bag of general mix that the finches at your feeder end up leaving mostly untouched in the tray.
How far apart should the two feeders and the suet cage be?
A foot or two of separation on the same pole is enough. The goal is not spacing for its own sake, it is making sure a squirrel can not use one feeder as a launch platform to reach another. Keep suet on the opposite side of the pole from the seed feeders for the same reason.
Is a 92 inch pole really squirrel-proof by itself?
